A Selfless Birthday Wish: 18-Year-Old Arya Pledges to Donate Organs
In a heartwarming display of compassion and generosity, 18-year-old Arya Santosh Andhale celebrated his birthday by pledging to donate his organs. This selfless act is a testament to Arya’s empathy and understanding of the urgent need for organ donation.
Arya’s journey towards this remarkable decision began several years ago, when he started hearing stories about organ donation and the long waiting lists for donor organs. He realized that the number of cadaver donations falls woefully short of the number of people in need. This awareness sparked a desire in Arya to make a difference.
To mark his 18th birthday, Arya chose to celebrate in a unique and meaningful way. For the past 18 years, Arya’s family has traditionally celebrated his birthday at The Victoria Memorial School for the Blind. This year was no exception, with leading gynaecologist Dr. Rishma Pai, who delivered Arya 18 years ago at Jaslok Hospital, joining in the celebration.
During the celebration, Arya pledged to donate his organs, inspiring others to follow in his footsteps. His family and friends couldn’t be prouder of his selfless decision.
Arya’s story serves as a reminder of the importance of organ donation and the impact one person can have on the lives of others. His birthday wish is a gift to those in need, and his legacy will continue to inspire others to make a difference.
Sharing the beautiful experience with The Scoope Arya’s father Santosh Andhale said ” Every year for the past 18 years (except for the two years of the Covid-19 pandemic), our family has made it a tradition to celebrate my son Arya’s birthday at The Victoria Memorial School for the Blind. On each birthday, we introduce different doctors to the school so that, in the future, these doctors can provide medical support to the children if needed. This year, we celebrated Arya’s birthday in the presence of leading gynaecologist Dr Rishma Pai, who, exactly 18 years ago, delivered my son at Jaslok Hospital”
Arya himself said, “There’s a lack of awareness about organ donation. I’m thankful for the Victoria Memorial School for 17 years of celebration. This year, I’m starting something new – creating awareness about organ donation, and I’m starting with myself.”
